No itinerary yet! I don’t plan much ahead. I just know that I’ll be diving a lot, and possibly trying to track down the nomadic, sea-dwelling fishing culture.
If you’re considering to go outside Manila, try Samal Island in Davao City. It’s another 3hr flight though. I tried it for the first time there last February, but just the shallow part. It was awesome! But Anilao, Batangas is the nearest place to go, I think. There’s also an underwater cemetery somewhere that’s supposed to be really cool, I’ll get back to you when I find out where it actually is.
That sounds awesome, and I’m definitely heading outside Manila! I’m hoping to spend about two months there. I’m so excited to go diving again! And do you know around which islands I can find the “sea gypsy” fishermen? The ones that spend their whole lives on the water. I want to find them and write an article about that.
Again, so excited. Thanks for reading for your advice! Let me know if you remember the name of the place, cause that sounds awesome.
Oh yeah, the underwater cemetery can be found in Nagcarlan, Laguna. And I think you’re talking about the Badjaos. They make houses out of their boats. You will find them in Mindanao, along the coastal areas.
You should also attend Carlos Celdran’s wall tour around Intramuros to understand Manila’s history a bit more. Entertaining as hell. 🙂
Brilliant website ya got going on here. Definitely very envious of your travel tales and always excited to see what’s next on your great adventure!
Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for reading!! I’m just wrapping up in Korea, and then I’m gonna be buckling down to write a ton of articles. More stories are soon to come! And I’m eagerly looking forward to Malaysia! Especially its FOOD.
